Is There a Difference Between Commercial and Residential LVT?

Luxury vinyl tile is a modern flooring solution that has become the go-to solution in both commercial and residential property sectors. Known for its durability, ease of maintenance, and versatility in design, Commercial and Residential LVT is ideal for any number of diverse spaces.

When it comes to choosing LVT for a commercial enterprise or a private residence, it is not a one-size-fits-all situation. There are a few distinct differences between commercial and residential LVT that you need to know about before purchasing your choice.

Core Differences

The core composition of LVT – like Quick-Step vinyl flooring – is critical to contributing to its performance and strength. Vinyl tiles are engineered to endure higher levels of foot traffic and demanding conditions.

Commercial LVT has a thicker overall composition from 6mm to 8mm, with an enhanced wear layer for extra protection of 0.5mm to 0.7mm. Commercial LVT is designed with an SPC core for increased stability. Residential LVT balances durability and comfort with an overall thickness of 4mm to 5mm. The wear layer for residential may be thinner than commercial, but they are flexible and often cushioned for a softer underfoot feel.

The implications for longevity and wear are huge. Commercial LVT is a product built to last in strength and appearance under more active foot traffic. Residential focuses on endurance, cost, and creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere in the home.

Design and Look

Luvanto luxury vinyl flooring offers a vast array of design options, replicating the look of natural materials such as wood and stones whilst supplying bespoke colour choices and patterns.

The aesthetic demands of commercial and residential spaces often differ. Commercial LVT prioritises bolder, more consistent patterns that can hide scuffs and traffic patterning, often showing a more formal and uniform look. Bespoke designs can incorporate company logos or branding elements if required.

Residential LVT caters more to personal taste, providing added detail and various patterns, trending towards a warmer, more varied texture like natural shades that enhance the calm of living spaces. Residential LVT is where you will find a wider range of colours and finishes that can complement home decor.

Selecting the right design also falls on practicality. The right flooring choice enhances the functionality of a space, aligning with interior design themes.

The differences between commercial and residential LVT also differ in installation, maintenance, and costs – with each brand, from Polyflor to Invictus, bringing their unique differences. Now that you understand there are differences between both sets of LVT flooring, contact the team at Floorbay to discover which brand is suitable for your space.
