Luxury Vinyl vs Traditional Vinyl

If you were to Google “vinyl flooring”, you will likely find two very different product types. Traditional vinyl and luxury vinyl are two flooring types that sound very similar but are different in many ways. This week, we will compare luxury vinyl flooring and traditional vinyl to make sure you make the right choice for your home!

Luxury Vinyl vs Traditional Vinyl – what’s the difference?

There are two similarities that both flooring types have. The first one is that they are both made from vinyl and the second is that they both contain the same four layers. When we compare luxury vinyl flooring to traditional vinyl, however, the difference lies in the amount of material used and the quality of design in terms of both style and function. Let’s dig deeper into the differences…

Durability

Luxury vinyl flooring is designed to be more durable than its traditional counterpart. Thin, traditional vinyl sheets generally have a shorter lifespan and are more vulnerable to scratches. But with LVF, the material is thicker, has a protective layer and can last for a minimum of 20 years!

Appearance

Vinyl flooring may be available in a range of colours and styles, but they cannot meet the level of quality you will see in LVF. Luxury vinyl flooring beautifully replicated natural material in a way that is unnoticeable. You can also mix and match the tiles, unlike traditional vinyl that tends to be sold in the form of a sheet.

Installation

Luxury vinyl is likely the easiest to install, whereas traditional vinyl first requires a perfect subfloor to ensure a smooth installation. If you’d like to learn more about installing luxury vinyl flooring, click here.

Care and maintenance

Vinyl flooring is relatively easy to care for. All it requires is a quick sweep and mop, rarely needing any special cleaning solutions. This applies to both traditional and luxury vinyl, so there isn’t a lot to compare.

Our verdict

Although traditional vinyl flooring is cheaper than luxury vinyl flooring, you get more for your money if you choose the latter. With high-quality finishes, strong durability, and overall better function, you cannot go wrong with luxury vinyl flooring. Get in touch with Floorbay to learn more about our products.
