what is the difference between lino and vinyl flooring

What’s the difference between lino and vinyl flooring?

Here at Floorbay we pride ourselves on supplying a wide range of luxury vinyl flooring to both our public and trade clients, at the most competitive prices. We have been doing so since 1994 and hope to continue for many years!

At the heart of everything we do comes our passion for providing every home, business and office with the most luxurious vinyl flooring options, consisting of the main luxury brands, including Invictus flooring and Quickstep Alpha Vinyl flooring.

One of the most commonly asked questions we have received over the years is what is the difference between lino and vinyl flooring? So much so, we wanted to dedicate a whole article to it. After reading the article, if you still feel you have questions, then please feel free to contact one of our friendly team today.

Flooring – our top tip

Our first piece of advice for any person considering new flooring options is always to choose a reputable brand and where possible, choose luxury. Vinyl flooring technology has come a long way – it gives you the look and feel of real hardwood, but with more benefits and a fraction of the price.

Lino flooring – what is it?

Lino, or linoleum is a type of flooring that can be a cheap, popular option as it is easy to install and low cost to initially purchase. It is durable and usually best suited for use in homes, rather than offices or spaces with large occupancies.

However, lino is susceptible to moisture damage and can require regular maintenance and upkeep, which adds stress and finances to this flooring option. Fitters can seal lino, to try to limit moisture damage, but again, this isn’t always 100% effective.

Vinyl flooring – the premium choice

As much as there are benefits to choosing linoleum for your flooring, we can’t help but delve into the many more benefits that quality vinyl will provide to you and your space. The main benefits of choosing vinyl flooring are:

  • Incredibly resilient and hard-wearing
  • Water-resistant
  • Once installed, incredibly low maintenance
  • Hugely durable
  • Excellent choice for high-trafficked areas, such as hospitals, schools and offices
  • Comfortable, padded feel to walk on
  • Easy installation
