Fusionline Acoustic PUR Flooring

Why Acoustic Flooring is No Longer a Compromise: Introducing Polyflor Fusionline Acoustic PUR

For too long, acoustic flooring has forced a difficult trade-off: accept a product that performs well acoustically but looks clinical and institutional, or choose a beautiful floor and deal with the noise consequences. That compromise is now firmly in the past. The Polyflor Fusionline Acoustic PUR range — available exclusively at Floorbay — is a collection of 12 contemporary oak-inspired luxury vinyl tile planks that delivers certified 19dB impact sound reduction without a single concession on design quality, durability or sustainability.

The Problem with Noise in Multi-Occupancy Buildings

Impact noise — the sound of footsteps, furniture being moved and everyday activity transmitting between floors — is one of the leading causes of tenant complaints and planning objections in multi-storey residential, hospitality and mixed-use developments. In the UK, Approved Document E of the Building Regulations sets minimum standards for airborne and impact sound insulation, and failure to meet them can delay handover, trigger costly remediation and damage a developer’s reputation.

Historically, the solution involved specifying a separate acoustic underlay beneath a standard floor covering — adding cost, thickness and complexity to the floor build-up. Fusionline Acoustic PUR changes that equation entirely.

19dB Built-In: How it Works

At the core of each Fusionline Acoustic PUR plank is an integrated IXPE acoustic backing layer. IXPE (irradiation cross-linked polyethylene) is a high-performance foam that is bonded directly to the underside of the plank during manufacture. The result is a certified 19dB reduction in impact sound (tested to ISO 10140-3), delivered as a single, self-contained product.

This built-in performance has significant practical advantages for contractors and developers. There is no need to source, price and install a separate underlay, no risk of incompatible products being used together, and no added height to manage within floor-to-ceiling calculations. Installation is by full adhesive (adhered method), ensuring a stable, flat floor that will not move underfoot.

Design That Works as Hard as the Spec

Fusionline Acoustic PUR is available in 12 oak-inspired colourways, each developed with a minimalist wood plank aesthetic that suits a wide range of interior settings. The palette spans pale, light-reflective tones — including Natural Blond Oak (LRV 42) and Demure Blond Oak (LRV 40) — through warm mid-tones like Mira Oak and Mellow Oak, to deeper, characterful finishes such as Arden Oak and Cadence Oak.

Each colourway measures 178mm x 1219.2mm and is finished with Polyflor’s advanced PUR surface treatment. PUR (polyurethane reinforcement) creates a hard-wearing, low-maintenance surface that resists scuffs, stains and chemical damage — critical in environments such as care homes, student accommodation and hotels where cleaning regimes are frequent and intensive.

Durability for the Toughest Commercial Environments

With a 0.55mm wear layer and use class ratings of 23, 33 and 42 (ISO 10874 / EN 685), Fusionline Acoustic PUR is certified for heavy commercial use. Its slip resistance of Class DS / R10 and Class Bfl-S1 reaction to fire rating make it suitable for applications where building regulations place strict demands on floor coverings, including healthcare, education and public sector environments. The product is also compatible with underfloor heating systems, supporting a maximum surface temperature of 27°C.

Sustainability Credentials

For projects seeking green building certifications or responding to sustainability requirements from public sector clients, Fusionline Acoustic PUR carries a strong set of credentials. The product is 100% recyclable, REACH compliant, and holds Indoor Air Comfort GOLD certification from Eurofins — confirming very low VOC emissions suitable for occupied residential and healthcare environments. It is also FloorScore certified and passes AgBB/ABG standards.

Where is Fusionline Acoustic PUR Specified?

The range is suited to any multi-occupancy or high-traffic environment where managing impact sound is a priority. Typical applications include:

Residential & Build-to-Rent: Apartments, multi-storey housing, retirement living and BTR schemes where acoustic compliance and long-term durability are both critical.

Student Accommodation: University halls and PBSA developments where high footfall and frequent tenancy changes demand a resilient, easy-clean floor with strong acoustic performance.

Hotels & Hospitality: Guestroom corridors and bedroom areas where minimising sound transfer between floors is a key element of the guest experience.

Healthcare & Care Homes: NHS facilities, private medical centres and care homes where quieter environments support patient wellbeing and infection-control cleaning regimes.

Commercial Offices & Education: Open-plan offices, classrooms and learning centres where footfall noise can be a significant distraction.
