A Guide to Installing Your LVT Flooring

To ensure your new Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) flooring looks flawless and performs beautifully for years, correct installation is essential. This guide outlines the key preparation steps for glue-down installation. For the best results, we always recommend hiring a trained, professional fitter who adheres to British Standard BS8203.

Essential Pre-Installation Checks

Before beginning the installation, please complete the following steps to prepare your space and materials.

  • Subfloor Preparation: Your subfloor must be perfectly flat, smooth, and dry. Any imperfections can show through the final flooring, so this step is critical.
  • Acclimatisation: Acclimatise the LVT planks by leaving them in the room where they will be installed for a minimum of 24 hours before fitting.
  • Room Temperature: Maintain a stable room temperature between 18°C and 25°C for 48 hours before installation, during the process, and for at least 24 hours afterwards.
  • Subfloor Temperature: The subfloor temperature must be at least 15°C. If you have underfloor heating, it must be turned off at least 48 hours before fitting begins.

Installation Method: Dry Back LVT (Glue-Down)

Often called “stick-down,” Dry Back LVT is the standard for luxury vinyl flooring, offering a permanent and robust finish.

Key Features:

  • Thickness: Typically 2mm to 3mm.
  • Application: This product requires a full bond to the subfloor. This is achieved using a suitable flooring adhesive applied with an A2 trowel or by using a self-adhesive underlay.

Important Considerations:

We do not supply adhesive, but we highly recommend using a high-quality product, such as F. Ball’s resilient flooring adhesives, for optimal performance.

The quality of your subfloor preparation is paramount for this method. A professionally prepared surface is non-negotiable for achieving a flawless, long-lasting installation.
