Luvanto Installation Guide

Glue-Down Installation:

1. Preparation: Before starting the installation of Luvanto Flooring, thoroughly inspect the subfloor to ensure it is clean, dry, and free from any debris, moisture, or imperfections. Address any unevenness by levelling the subfloor with a suitable levelling compound. This step is crucial for ensuring a smooth and stable base for the tiles or planks.
2. Acclimatisation: Allow the Luvanto Flooring planks or tiles to acclimate to the room’s environment for at least 48 hours before installation. Lay the pieces flat in the room where they will be installed, ensuring proper air circulation around each plank, ideally opening both ends of the packaging. This acclimatisation period allows the Luvanto Flooring to adjust to the temperature and humidity of the room, minimising the risk of expansion or contraction after installation.
3. Layout: Carefully plan the layout of the flooring, considering factors such as room dimensions, natural light sources, and traffic patterns. Start the installation from the longest, straightest wall in the room, as this will provide a reference point for laying the first row of Luvanto planks. Then work from this point staggering the planks for a natural look. If needed, tape across the planks to keep the joints tight until the adhesive grabs.
4. Adhesive Application: Select a high-quality adhesive recommended by Luvanto Flooring and follow the manufacturer’s instructions for application. Use a notched trowel to spread the adhesive evenly over the subfloor, working in small sections to prevent it from drying out too quickly. Take care not to apply adhesive beyond the area where you will be laying the Luvanto Flooring, as excess adhesive can be difficult to clean up and may interfere with the installation process. This is often called “late placement” and flooring laid on semi-cured adhesive will ultimately fail.
5. Installation: Begin laying the Luvanto Flooring planks into the adhesive, starting from the reference line and working towards the opposite wall. Press each plank firmly into the adhesive, ensuring a tight bond between the plank and the subfloor. If available a handheld roller can help with this process. Be sure to wipe away any excess adhesive that is squeezed through the joints with a warm damp cloth.
6. Trimming: As you approach the end of each row, measure and cut the final Luvanto plank to fit against the wall using a utility knife or a vinyl cutter. The remainder of the plank can then be used to start the next row.  Remove any excess adhesive from the surface of the flooring using a clean cloth or adhesive remover.
7. Finishing Touches: Once the installation is complete allow the adhesive to cure according to the manufacturer’s recommendations (normally 24 hours) before allowing significant foot traffic on the floor and the placement of heavy furniture on your new Luvanto floor. A floor dressing can be added if desired to enhance the appearance but in today’s modern floors, this is rarely used.

Click-Lock Installation:

1. Preparation: Prepare the subfloor in the same manner as for glue-down installation, ensuring it is clean, dry, and level. Remove any existing flooring materials and thoroughly clean the subfloor to ensure an even surface for the click-lock Luvanto flooring.
2. Acclimation: Allow the planks to acclimate to the room’s environment for at least 48 hours before installation, following the same acclimation process as described for glue-down installation.
3. Layout: Plan the layout of the flooring, starting from the longest, straightest wall in the room. Leave an expansion gap of approximately 1/4 inch along the walls and transition to other fixed items such as kitchen units or island units. This helps to future-proof your interior against changing temperatures throughout the seasons.
4. Installation: Begin by laying the first row of planks along the starting wall, ensuring that the click-lock edges are securely engaged. Use a tapping block and rubber mallet to gently tap the Luvanto planks into place, ensuring a tight fit between each plank. Continue installing subsequent rows of planks, interlocking each one with the click-lock system and staggering the end joints for added stability. Staggers should not be less than 1/3rd of the length of the Luvanto plank or tile.
5. Trimming: As needed, use a suitable saw or a vinyl cutter (for example a sharp Stanley knife or similar) to trim the final row of planks to fit against the wall, leaving an expansion gap as above. Remove any excess debris from the surface using a vacuum or broom.
6. Finishing Touches: Once the installation is complete, remove any spacers and install matching transition strips or moldings along the perimeter of the room to cover the expansion gap and provide a finished look. Inspect the installation for any gaps, unevenness, or imperfections, and address them as needed for a professional finish.
