We have touched upon how waterproof, simple to install and how identical Luvanto luxury vinyl flooring is in previous blogs but, many people also enquire into how hard wearing it truly is as a product. Durability is a desire for many people that want to invest in new flooring trends – and with LVT, it also needs to hold up for long periods in heavy-traffic areas of the house.
If you want to know just how tough LVT is, allow us to tell you from our own experience providing vinyl tiles and planks to our many customers over the decades.
Types of LVT?
LVT is constructed from a blend of resins and materials to create several different layers – most importantly, a thick underlayer, printed text layer and a clear wear layer on top that is sometimes embossed.
Whilst they effortlessly replicate the appearance of a product, they are printed onto a thin layer of vinyl to be cut and stuck to the LVT. The top layer will either have zero embossing and be the most cost-affordable, embossed with a few random textures pressed into the wear layer or Embossed in Register – a popular option where the printed pattern and wear layer match up.
How Hard Wearing is it?
Now that we know what luxury vinyl tile is made of – we can get to the point of how hard wearing the product is and why it is superior to hard tile flooring.
Let’s say that this flooring is fitted in a room where you were planning on some future renovation work, where an element of plastering would be in effect. Plaster is a natural enemy to most flooring choices as it can destroy traditional flooring once it has dried onto floorboards, carpet or tiles. That would usually call for a flooring replacement as it would take a while to clean off and usually leave a discolouration when removed.
If dried plaster was to cover luxury vinyl flooring like Polyflor, a quick wipe with some warm soapy water will remove the biggest chunks of plaster. Following this up with a recommended cleaning kit (most vinyl flooring brands like Karndean Click vinyl flooring have a recommended cleaning kit) to wipe away the most stubborn bits from the surface. The result should be no loss, damage or discolouration to your wear layer and will look exactly as it did on your installation day.
LVT has not only provided hard-wearing durability for busy homes but they are also used more often than other floorings in commercial premises. That is because they are the most suitable flooring types for areas with heavy foot traffic and require minimal levels of care to keep them long-lasting.
